Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum
Do you want to spend an interesting day in Chicago? Then you have to drop in to the Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum. It will be a perfect day out for you and your family. It is located on Lake Shore Drive which is in the Chicago's museum campus.
The museum was opened during the year 1930's by Chicago business leader Max Adler and was the first museum of its kind in the western hemisphere. The museum contains exhibits which nearly covers 35,000 square feet.
You can treat yourself with a power packed entertainment day once you step in the museum. There are three full-size digital theatres, the universe 3D theatre and to top it all it is the sky theatre that works under the mechanism of the Zeiss optical projector. The Adler is renowned for its world famous antique instrument collections.
The Definiti Space theatre is a visual treat to all. It takes you to a virtual ride to the world of space. The most important factor to be kept in mind is that the museum does not provide advance ticket booking services for any of its shows. All the tickets for the show are based on "first come, first serve" at the ticket counter.
Firstly it is the Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX). This is specially designed for the Chicago travel visitors to enhance their knowledge and views on the challenges met by the space science. This experience is narrated in a very different way by two teenagers who are curious about the space science.
The second show is the One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure. This show is depicted in a way which would pull the children with great enthusiasm. The featured characters in the show are Big Bird, Elmo and a friend of theirs who is from China.
Next comes the most exciting show that the Cosmic Collisions. It is narrated by the actor cum director and a producer, Robert Redford. Redford is an award winning actor. This show is breathtaking experience for its visitors. It takes them to a journey through the space and explains the evolution of the universe through collisions.
Now that you know about the Adler Planetarium and Astronomy museum, just go and explore into the world of astronomy and space science! This would prove to be one of the best day out you have ever experienced along with your family in Chicago!
