Chicago Beaches

Chicago has many beaches with their beautiful blue water stretching far out. Most of these beaches are free and swimming can be done from the weekend of Memorial Day to Labor Day from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Listed below are some of the famous Chicago Beaches.

Oak Street Beach- The Oak Street Beach present in the middle of bustling Chicago is famous for its people watching extravaganza. This beach is very popular among the people for volleyball, rollerblading, or soaking in the sun and checking out the swim wears. For the sunbathers, this beach has the largest space available.

North Avenue Beach- This beach is the busiest of the Chicago Beaches and everyone on Chicago IL travel comes here to see and be seen. A running and biking path is available here with a Crunch Fitness mini-gym. This beach plays host to the Chicago Water & Air Show and professional volleyball tournaments. Also present in this beach are a beach house in a steamship shape with showers, sandwich shop, bike rental shop and a chess pavilion.

Fullerton Beach- Chicago's Fullerton Beach is a great option for the families to enjoy themselves. Located opposite the Lincoln Park Zoo, visitors who travel to Chicago IL have to walk through a pedestrian tunnel under the Lake Shore Drive to get to this beach. After starting with a narrow stretch of sand, this beach expands further down where it is less crowded. Vendors selling ice-creams are present at the beginning of the beach.

Loyola Leone Beach- The largest of the Chicago Beaches, this beach is 8 blocks long. With stroller beach mats and a play lot, it is a kid friendly beach. Also present are basket ball courts, a large bike rack and basketball fields for the sports enthusiasts.

Belmont Harbor- After undergoing in 2004 a major renovation, this beach now has a walking, running and biking path with ample parking spaces. Belmont Harbor is home to the Chicago's Yacht Club and is also famous as the unofficial 'dog beach' of the city with a fenced-in beach area that is perfect for the Chicago travel visitors with a canine companion.

Evanston Beaches- Present in Chicago's north, the Evanston consists of five beautiful Chicago Beaches with great southern view of the city's skyline. Most of the beaches have shallow water with ice-cream and gourmet concessions, which makes them popular among the families. Open from 11 a.m-6 p.m., costs of admission to these beaches are $7 for 12+ years and $5 for children between 1-11 years.
