Chicago Midway International Airport Parking Information
Built in 1949, the Chicago Midway International Airport acts as a focus hub for Southwest Airline toady. It is also the premier point-to-point airport in the United States. Simply known as Midway Airport or just Midway, it's thought as one of the fastest growing airports in the nation.
Located only ten miles away from downtown Chicago, the Midway International Airport is the second busiest airport of Illinois. It would be easily reached via public transportation and cars. No matter whether you take line buses or shuttles, you can arrive at the Airport within half an hour. If, you prefer to drive by yourself, please be advised to plan ahead and head out earlier to make sure that you are not rushed to park your car at the Airport.
Chicago Midway Airport gives various parking options in convenient locations. The most convenient parking garage counts as the one located close to terminals of the Airport -the Midway Parking Garage. You can easily find it between 55th and 59th Streets, east of Cicero Avenue. The first floor of this building is usually available for parkers who require short term parking less than 3 hours. As a result, overnight stay is not permitted. Plus, the parking rate of the first level would be charged based on hours.
For long stays, you should choose to park at level 4, 5 or 6 of this building. Parking spaces on these levels are available for daily parking. And of course, the parking fees are calculated in days.
The second floor of this Parking Garage is only accessible for rental cars to pick up or drop off passengers. So, you will be not allowed to park at Level 2.
To help you save on parking fees, the Airport provides Economy Parking Lot at two different locations - 1/4 miles west of Cicero Avenue on 55th Street and east of Cicero Avenue. Better still, complimentary shuttles are offered to transport you to and from the Airport's Terminal Building free of charge. These shuttles would depart for Economy Parking Lot every 15 minutes, and you can catch one at any designated stop placed throughout the parking lots.
Note that drivers who park their cars in Economy Parking Lot are strongly suggested to catch shuttle buses at the stop next to the lot. And remember the number of the bus stop just in case that you might not be able to find your car when you return.
Handicapped Parking Spaces are also available at the Midway International Airport. Parking spaces specially for disabled travelers are located near the three elevator cores of the Midway Parking Garage. From where you park the car, you can reach your terminal by making your way through the pedestrian bridge on level 3.
If Economy Parking Lot is preferred, then you can find designated handicapped parking areas near the entrances of each lot. Then you can take a free shuttle bus which is equipped with wheelchair lifts to get to the Airport's Terminal Building. To make it more convenient for dropping off and greeting people, a 90-space Cell Phone Lot is provided. This free and temporary parking lot is situated between 61st Street and Cicero Avenue, several minutes away from the main terminal area as well as the main entrance of the Airport.
While waiting for people or seeing somebody off at the Cell Phone Lot, you should really pay attention to the Airport's Parking Rules. Bear in mind that curbside waiting is not allowed at the Midway International Airport. Besides, vehicles are required to be attended all the time. Otherwise, they would be ticketed and towed out at the owner's risk and expense.
NOTE: When enjoying the great convenience the Midway International Airport gives, you also need to watch out a couple of things.
(1) All the parking lots as well as garages offered by the Chicago Midway International Airport are not available for vehicles that would cover more than one parking space.
(2) If you need to leave you car at the Airport's parking lots or garages for 30 days or more, make sure a prior agreement is made. Otherwise, your car would be also towed at your expense.
