Chicago did not possess a specific religious past before 1830. Later, protestant missionaries migrated and by the year 1890, most of the population in the particular area were converted to Protestantism. Thirty six percent of the population got affiliation with evangelical denominations.
By 2000, it was found that the largest religious institution in the Chicago and the rest of Illinois is Roman Catholic Church with having about 1225 congregations. The protestant denomination was 365 182 and Jewish denomination is 270, 000. Over forty four percent of the population are not members of any particular religion.
