The Hyde Park, Chicago is located on the city's southern side, a mere 7 miles south of the Chicago Loop. It is one of the 77 Chicago Community areas and is home to many a historic buildings and notable senators, Presidents and other personalities. Some of the very famous institutions include the University of Chicago, Renaissance society, Hyde Park Art Centre and the Oriental Institute.

The Hyde Park was founded by Paul Cornell in the early 1850s. However it became known after the University of Chicago was founded there in 1890. In the 1950s it suffered from an economic depression of sorts and migrant issues. In the 1950s and 1960s a great urban revival took shape by the sponsorship of the University and vigilance of the local members.

The Hyde Park Herald has covered the events in Hyde Park from its inception in 1882.

The even numbered streets in hyde park are almost completely residential while the odd numbered streets host businesses. The oldest shopping area of Hyde Park is the 53rd street which consists of various medium ranging shops, bookstores and restraints.

The Museum of Science and Industry is located at the south east corner of Hyde Park and right next to it is a Japanese Garden.
