The Smart Museum of art is one such hub of amalgamated inspiration. Located in the Hyde Park campus of the University of Chicago at 5550 S. Greenwood Avenue, the Smart museum has been serving the cause of art and art appreciation since 1974.
Known as the David and Alfred Smart Museum of Art, the Smart Museum houses more than 10000 objects which hint at the vast varsity of both Eastern and Western civilizations. It also the works of legends like Pablo Picasso, Diego Rivera, Ansel Adams, Fransisco Goya, Edgar Degas and Auguste Rodin.
Being in the vicinity for scholars and researchers, this place is the ideal destination for direct contact with original works of art which in turn enhance one's creative capacities. There is also a cafe and museum shop in the Smart Museum. The Smart Museum is progressing with the passing day (a part of the structure is being developed and the museum is also introducing a wheel-chair accessible room).
The Smart Museum also organizes special events for children called the Smart Kids Refreshed and other workshops and lectures for students and classroom teachers. It also has published books pertaining to art which are of help to one and all.
Some of the titles are, The "Writing" of modern Life: The etching Revival in France, Britain, and the U.S., 1850 - 1940, Adaptation: Video Installations by Ben-Ner, Herrera, Sullivan and Sussman & the Rufus Corporation (an online publication) and Looking and Listening in Nineteenth-Century France.
The museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am to 4pm, on Thursday from 10am to 8pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 11pm to 5pm. The galleries of the Smart Museum are closed on Mondays and all other public holidays. Entry fee is nil on all days.
The aim of the Smart Museum is to make people aware of the phenomenal magic that art can conjure. Its collection must be paid homage to by every Chicago travel visitor to the city.
