The South Side is a major section of the City of Chicago that is found in the Cook County, Illinois, US. The Chicago River and its branches divide the parts of the city that are referred to as sides. The Chicago South Side originally comprised all of the main branches south of the Chicago River. The South Side covers 60% of the total land in the city with majority of the residents being single-family homes.
